      <title>Avaliação de Promotores Biológicos de Enraizamento de Camellia japonica em dois Regimes de Rega</title>
      <link>http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.11960/5074</link>
      <description>Title: Avaliação de Promotores Biológicos de Enraizamento de Camellia japonica em dois Regimes de Rega
Authors: Almeida, Pedro José dos Santos
Abstract: A propagação vegetativa de Camellia japonica L. recorre tradicionalmente a auxinas &#xD;
sintéticas, em particular ao ácido indolbutírico (AIB), prática incompatível com o &#xD;
Regulamento (UE) 2018/848, que enquadra o Modo de Produção Biológico. A procura de &#xD;
bioestimulantes autorizados em agricultura biológica (AB) com eficácia comparável &#xD;
constitui, por isso, uma necessidade técnica e regulamentar atual. O presente trabalho avaliou &#xD;
o efeito de quatro bioestimulantes — dois extratos de algas (Foralg BMo® e Rizogen®) e &#xD;
dois consórcios microbianos (Kiplant iNmass® e Kiplant AllGrip®) — no enraizamento de &#xD;
estacas semilenhosas de C. japonica, em comparação com um controlo positivo com AIB e &#xD;
um controlo negativo com água, sob dois regimes hídricos.  &#xD;
O ensaio decorreu numa estufa aquecida com sistema de rega por nebulização, entre outubro &#xD;
de 2025 e janeiro de 2026, com um delineamento experimental de talhões subdivididos (split &#xD;
plot), tendo os grandes talhões dois níveis (rega normal e rega deficitária ±80%) e os &#xD;
pequenos talhões, seis níveis (diferentes promotores de enraizamento), casualizados, com &#xD;
três blocos e seis estacas por cada tratamento. As estacas foram colhidas no jardim da Casa &#xD;
Tait (Porto) e propagadas em paper pots Ellepot® com substrato Siro® Multiplicação &#xD;
M056.05, certificado para AB. &#xD;
O AIB (Rhizopon® AA 1%) foi o tratamento de melhor desempenho, com 88,3% de &#xD;
enraizamento, embora não tenha sido significativa a diferença obtida com o iNmass e &#xD;
AllGrip (em média 77,5%). Os extratos de algas apresentaram um comportamento &#xD;
desfavorável, com uma mortalidade média de estacas de 42,8% e 16,7%, respetivamente &#xD;
com o Foralg® BMo e o Rizogen® (atingindo 63,3% e 22,2% em rega normal). Este &#xD;
resultado poderá estar relacionado com o valor de pH alcalino da formulação (8,5) e com a &#xD;
sua atividade citocinínica, desfavorável à fase de iniciação radicular. Entre os &#xD;
bioestimulantes microbianos, o Kiplant iNmass® destacou-se em rega deficitária, com 13,2 &#xD;
cm/estaca de comprimento total estimado das raízes, significativamente superior ao &#xD;
observado no tratamento sem promotor de enraizamento (3,0 cm/estaca). Para além dos &#xD;
tratamentos com AIB, no mesmo regime de rega deficitária, o Kiplant iNmass® foi o único &#xD;
produto natural que resultou em raízes de maiores dimensões (&gt; 4 cm) e que obteve o nível &#xD;
N2 de desenvolvimento radicular, provavelmente devido à sua concentração em ácido &#xD;
indolacético. Em síntese, o Kiplant iNmass® aplicado em regime de rega deficitária constitui a alternativa &#xD;
biológica mais robusta identificada neste estudo para a propagação de Camellia japonica em &#xD;
produção biológica, conjugando o desenvolvimento radicular significativo com redução do &#xD;
consumo de água em viveiro. Este estudo poderá contribuir para a continuidade da &#xD;
investigação de promotores de enraizamento de origem natural direcionados à propagação &#xD;
vegetativa de plantas.; Vegetative propagation of Camellia japonica L. traditionally relies on synthetic auxins, &#xD;
especially indole butyric acid (IBA), a practice incompatible with Regulation (EU) &#xD;
2018/848, which frames the certified organic farming. The search for biostimulants &#xD;
authorized in organic agriculture (OA) with comparable efficacy is, therefore, a current &#xD;
technical and regulatory need. This work evaluated the effect of four biostimulants, two &#xD;
seaweed extracts (Foralg BMo® and Rizogen®) and two microbial consortia (Kiplant &#xD;
iNmass® and Kiplant AllGrip®), on the rooting of semi-hardwood cuttings of C. japonica, &#xD;
in comparison with a positive control with IBA and a negative control with water, under two &#xD;
irrigation regimes. &#xD;
The trial took place in a heated greenhouse with a mist irrigation system, between October &#xD;
2025 and January 2026, with a split-plot experimental design, with the main plots having &#xD;
two levels (normal irrigation and ±80% irrigation) and the sub plots, six levels (different &#xD;
rooting promoters), randomized, with three blocks and six cuttings for each treatment. The &#xD;
cuttings were collected in the garden of Casa Tait (Porto) and propagated in Ellepot® paper &#xD;
pots with Siro® Multiplication M056.05 substrate, certified for Organic Farming. &#xD;
IBA (Rhizopon® AA 1%) was the best performing treatment, with 88.3% rooting, although &#xD;
the difference obtained with iNmass and AllGrip was not significant (on average 77.5%). &#xD;
The algae extracts showed unfavorable behaviour, with cutting mortality rates of 42.8% and &#xD;
16.7% on average, respectively, with Foralg® BMo and Rizogen® (reaching 63.3% and &#xD;
22.2% under normal irrigation). This result may be related to the alkaline pH value of the &#xD;
formulation (8.5) and its cytokinin activity, which is unfavourable to the root initiation &#xD;
phase. Among the microbial biostimulants, Kiplant iNmass® stood out under deficit &#xD;
irrigation, with an estimated total root length of 13.2 cm/cutting, significantly greater than &#xD;
that observed in the treatment without rooting promoter (3.0 cm/cutting). In addition to the &#xD;
IBA treatments, under the same deficit irrigation regime, Kiplant iNmass® was the only &#xD;
natural product that resulted in larger roots (&gt; 4 cm) and achieved the N2 level for root &#xD;
development, probably due to its concentration of indoleacetic acid. &#xD;
It can be suggested that Kiplant iNmass® applied under deficit irrigation constitutes the most &#xD;
robust biological alternative identified in this study for the propagation of Camellia japonica &#xD;
in organic production, combining significant root development with reduced water consumption in the nursery. This study may contribute to further research on rooting &#xD;
promoters of natural origin aimed at the vegetative propagation of plants.

      <title>Florestas de elevado valor de conservação: caso de estudo Serra de Santa Luzia Viana do Castelo</title>

      <description>Title: Florestas de elevado valor de conservação: caso de estudo Serra de Santa Luzia Viana do Castelo
Authors: Pereira, Orlando Amorim
Abstract: A floresta contribui para a habitabilidade do Planeta e para o desenvolvimento social, &#xD;
económico e ambiental. Esta dissertação de mestrado enquadra-se na conservação e &#xD;
valorização dos espaços e atividades florestais para o desenvolvimento e sustentabilidade &#xD;
local. A floresta, em Portugal, carece de planeamento e ordenamento, além das medidas &#xD;
pontuais sobretudo a nível de proteção contra incêndios, centrados na geração de valor &#xD;
económico e conservação de condições, recursos, funções e serviços de ecossistema. &#xD;
É nessa nova abordagem que foi desenvolvido e aplicado o conceito de Florestas de &#xD;
Elevado Valor de Conservação (FHCV)/ Hight Conservation Value Forest (HCVF). As &#xD;
HCVF são divididas em seis elevados Valores de Conservação denominados &#xD;
(HCV/HCV): valores de biodiversidade, áreas florestais, ecossistemas e habitats, serviços &#xD;
de ecossistemas, necessidades básicas para as comunidades locais e identidade cultural &#xD;
tradicional das comunidades locais. Para desenvolver e testar os conceitos e a &#xD;
metodologia de cartografia foi selecionada como área de aplicação a serra de Santa Luzia, &#xD;
em Viana do Castelo. Para a identificação dos valores foram utilizados os sistemas de &#xD;
informação geográfica (SIG). Nestes destacam-se com relevância dos dados recolhid &#xD;
os sobre a fauna, flora pela sua vulnerabilidade, sobre o património arqueológico &#xD;
e religioso de elevada importância que por isso deve ser preservado. Serão aplicadas &#xD;
metodologias de avaliação, identificação, manutenção e de gestão para a preservação e &#xD;
ou aumento dos HCV. &#xD;
Os resultados esperam melhorar as bases de um modelo espacialmente explicito para &#xD;
aplicação das HCVF à escala regional em Portugal. A deteção de HVC conjugados à &#xD;
escassez de dados na área de estudo realça a importância que esta metodologia terá numa &#xD;
futura aplicação na serra de Santa Luzia para a obtenção de um possível maior número de &#xD;
HCV.; Forests contribute to the habitability of the planet and to social, economic, and &#xD;
environmental development. This master's thesis focuses on the conservation and &#xD;
valorization of forest spaces and activities for local development and sustainability. In &#xD;
Portugal, forests lack proper planning and management, and measures are often limited &#xD;
to fire protection, with an emphasis on generating economic value and conserving &#xD;
conditions, resources, functions, and ecosystem services. &#xD;
In this context, the concept of High Conservation Value Forests (HCVF) has been &#xD;
developed and applied. HCVFs are categorized into six High Conservation Values &#xD;
(HCV/HCV): biodiversity values, forest areas, ecosystems and habitats, ecosystem &#xD;
services, basic needs of local communities, and the traditional cultural identity of these &#xD;
communities. To develop and test the concepts and methodology for cartography, the &#xD;
Serra de Santa Luzia in Viana do Castelo was selected as a case study. Geographic &#xD;
Information Systems (GIS) were utilized to identify these values, with a particular focus &#xD;
on the vulnerability of fauna and flora, as well as the archaeological and religious heritage &#xD;
which is of great importance and must be preserved. Methodologies for assessment, &#xD;
identification, maintenance, and management will be applied to preserve or enhance the &#xD;
HCVs. &#xD;
The results aim to enhance the foundation of a spatially explicit model for the application &#xD;
of HCVFs at a regional scale in Portugal. The detection of HVCs, combined with the data &#xD;
scarcity in the study area, underscores the significance of this methodology for future &#xD;
application in the Serra de Santa Luzia, potentially leading to the identification of a &#xD;
greater number of HCVs.

Abstract: A cultura do milho assume um papel estruturante na bacia leiteira do Entre Douro e Minho, &#xD;
constituindo a principal base forrageira dos sistemas intensivos de produção animal predominantes &#xD;
nesta região. A sua relevância económica e agronómica, aliada à crescente necessidade de adaptação &#xD;
dos sistemas agrícolas aos efeitos das alterações climáticas, reforça a importância de compreender a &#xD;
sua distribuição territorial, os fatores que condicionam a sua aptidão produtiva e a sua potencial &#xD;
evolução em cenários climáticos futuros. &#xD;
Neste contexto, o presente trabalho teve como objetivo desenvolver uma abordagem integrada para &#xD;
analisar a distribuição espacial da cultura do milho na bacia leiteira do Entre Douro e Minho, identificar &#xD;
os principais fatores agroecológicos associados à sua implantação territorial e avaliar a evolução &#xD;
potencial da aptidão da cultura perante diferentes cenários de alteração climática. &#xD;
Para esse efeito desenvolveu-se uma metodologia assente na integração de técnicas de deteção remota, &#xD;
sistemas de informação geográfica e modelação espacial. A identificação e o mapeamento das áreas &#xD;
ocupadas pela cultura do milho foram realizados para o período compreendido entre 2017 e 2025, com &#xD;
recurso a imagens Sentinel-2 e a métodos de classificação supervisionada. Paralelamente, procedeu-se &#xD;
à modelação da aptidão agroecológica para diferentes grupos de maturação do milho, entre FAO 200 &#xD;
e FAO 700, integrando variáveis climáticas, fisiográficas e pedológicas. Foi ainda aplicada uma &#xD;
abordagem de otimização espacial da distribuição potencial dos diferentes grupos FAO, através do &#xD;
modelo Multi-Objective Land Allocation (MOLA), considerando cenários climáticos atuais e futuros. &#xD;
Os resultados obtidos evidenciam uma forte persistência espacial da cultura do milho na região, bem &#xD;
como uma estreita associação entre a sua distribuição territorial e os principais territórios de produção &#xD;
leiteira. A comparação entre as áreas estimadas por deteção remota e os registos administrativos &#xD;
revelou diferenças relevantes, sugerindo limitações associadas à representatividade da informação &#xD;
declarativa enquanto expressão da ocupação efetiva do solo agrícola. &#xD;
No domínio da aptidão agroecológica, os cenários climáticos futuros analisados apontam para uma &#xD;
reorganização progressiva da adequação territorial da cultura, marcada pela expansão potencial de &#xD;
áreas favoráveis a grupos FAO de maior duração. Esta tendência reflete o aumento da disponibilidade &#xD;
térmica acumulada e poderá traduzir-se numa alteração da configuração produtiva regional. A &#xD;
otimização espacial confirmou igualmente uma tendência de expansão territorial dos ciclos mais longos &#xD;
em cenários futuros, reforçando a possibilidade de uma reconfiguração gradual dos sistemas de &#xD;
produção de milho na bacia leiteira do Entre Douro e Minho. &#xD;
Em termos globais, o presente trabalho contribui para uma compreensão mais integrada da relação &#xD;
entre agricultura, território e alterações climáticas, tendo como referência a bacia leiteira do Entre &#xD;
Douro e Minho. Simultaneamente, constitui um contributo metodológico e aplicado para o apoio ao &#xD;
planeamento agrícola, à gestão territorial e à adaptação futura dos sistemas produtivos regionais.; Maize plays a structural role in the dairy basin of Entre Douro e Minho, representing the main forage &#xD;
basis of the intensive livestock production systems that predominate in the region. Its economic and &#xD;
agronomic relevance, combined with the growing need to adapt agricultural systems to the effects of &#xD;
climate change, reinforces the importance of understanding its territorial distribution, the factors &#xD;
conditioning its productive suitability, and its potential evolution under future climate scenarios. &#xD;
In this context, this study aimed to develop an integrated approach to analyse the spatial distribution of &#xD;
maize cultivation in the Entre Douro e Minho dairy basin, identify the main agroecological factors &#xD;
associated with its territorial establishment, and assess the potential evolution of crop suitability under &#xD;
different climate change scenarios. &#xD;
To this end, a methodology was developed based on the integration of remote sensing techniques, &#xD;
geographic information systems and spatial modelling. The identification and mapping of maize&#xD;
growing areas were carried out for the period between 2017 and 2025, using Sentinel-2 imagery and &#xD;
supervised classification methods. In parallel, agroecological suitability was modelled for different &#xD;
maize maturity groups, ranging from FAO 200 to FAO 700, by integrating climatic, physiographic and &#xD;
soil-related variables. A spatial optimisation approach was also applied to the potential distribution of &#xD;
the different FAO groups, using the Multi-Objective Land Allocation (MOLA) model, considering &#xD;
both current and future climate scenarios. &#xD;
The results show a strong spatial persistence of maize cultivation in the region, as well as a close &#xD;
association between its territorial distribution and the main dairy production areas. The comparison &#xD;
between areas estimated through remote sensing and administrative records revealed relevant &#xD;
differences, suggesting limitations in the representativeness of declarative information as an expression &#xD;
of the effective occupation of agricultural land. &#xD;
Regarding agroecological suitability, the future climate scenarios analysed point to a progressive &#xD;
reorganisation of the territorial suitability of maize cultivation, marked by the potential expansion of &#xD;
areas favourable to longer-duration FAO maturity groups. This trend reflects the increase in &#xD;
accumulated thermal availability and may translate into changes in the regional productive &#xD;
configuration. Spatial optimisation also confirmed a tendency towards the territorial expansion of &#xD;
longer crop cycles under future scenarios, reinforcing the possibility of a gradual reconfiguration of &#xD;
maize production systems in the Entre Douro e Minho dairy basin. &#xD;
Overall, this study contributes to a more integrated understanding of the relationship between &#xD;
agriculture, territory and climate change, using the Entre Douro e Minho dairy basin as a reference &#xD;
area. At the same time, it provides both a methodological and applied contribution to support &#xD;
agricultural planning, territorial management and the future adaptation of regional production systems.

Abstract: Introduction: Cryptosporidium spp. and Giardia duodenalis are common intestinal protozoa with zoonotic potential, affecting a broad range of domestic and wild animals. In Portugal, knowledge on their occurrence and genetic diversity remains fragmented. This study integrates new molecular results from multiple animal groups with a comprehensive review of published national data to establish an updated baseline for these parasites within a One Health framework. Methods: A total of 805 faecal samples from 91 animal species were analysed, including domestic (n = 192 samples), captive (n = 283) and wild (n = 330) hosts. Detection was performed by modified Ziehl–Neelsen and direct immunofluorescence assays; samples that were positive or doubtful after microscopic screening were further subjected to nested PCR and sequencing targeting SSU rRNA, gp60 (for C. parvum), and gdh, bg and tpi (for G. duodenalis). Newly generated sequences were compared to GenBank references and compiled with data from 29 Portuguese studies published between 2001 and 2025. Results: Overall, Cryptosporidium spp. were detected in 11/805 samples (1.4%) and G. duodenalis in 101/805 (12.5%). Detection rates of Cryptosporidium spp. were 3.6% (7/192) in domestic, 0.0% in captive, and 1.2% (4/330) in wild animals, while Giardia spp. occurred in 18.8% (36/192), 8.5% (24/283), and 12.4% (41/330), respectively. Molecular analysis revealed C. parvum (IIaA19G2R1 in Iberian wolf, and IIcA5G3 in hedgehogs), C. canis, and C. cuniculus. Moreover, G. duodenalis assemblages were diverse, in cluding assemblage E in ruminants, D in canids and felids, B in rabbits, lemurs, cheetahs and suricates, F in lions, and E and B co- occurring in suricates and raccoons. The compiled dataset from available Portuguese studies included 3741 animals tested for Cryptosporidium spp. and 3353 for Giardia spp., providing a descriptive overview of host and genotype diversity across the country. Conclusions: This study provides the first integrated overview of Cryptosporidium spp. and G. duodenalis occurrences in animals across the Portuguese territory. The findings demonstrate that livestock, pets, zoo animals, and free- ranging wildlife can contribute to the circulation of these protozoan parasites, emphasizing the importance of harmonized molecular surveillance and integrated One Health strategies for early detection and control.</description>
