A Gallery Walk no ensino e aprendizagem da organização e tratamento de dados do 5º ano do EB

Abstract

O presente estudo desenvolveu-se no âmbito da Prática de Ensino Supervisionada (PES), numa Escola Básica 2,3/S do distrito de Viana do Castelo, numa turma do 5º ano de escolaridade do 2º Ciclo do Ensino Básico (CEB), tendo-se centrado na área da Matemática, mais concretamente no domínio de conteúdo Organização e Tratamento de Dados (OTD). O estudo focou-se na realização de Projetos Estatísticos como viabilizadores de cidadãos capazes de viver de forma consciente e informada na sociedade, realizados através de uma Gallery Walk. Pretendeu-se compreender quais as maiores dificuldades sentidas pelos alunos no que respeita às diferentes noções estatísticas e ao modo como eles mobilizam os conhecimentos adquiridos nas aulas de OTD na realização de Projetos Estatísticos através de uma Gallery Walk, pelo que foram definidas as seguintes questões orientadoras para o estudo: (Q.1): Quais os principais conhecimentos e dificuldades identificados na resolução de tarefas de OTD?; (Q.2): Como se pode caraterizar a mobilização dos conhecimentos adquiridos ao longo das aulas no desenvolvimento do Projeto Estatístico durante a Gallery Walk?; (Q.3): Qual o envolvimento dos alunos nas tarefas de OTD realizadas ao longo das aulas e na realização dos Projetos Estatísticos durante a Gallery Walk? Tendo em conta o problema e as questões do estudo, optou-se por uma metodologia de investigação qualitativa, de natureza interpretativa, privilegiando-se a observação participante, questionários, entrevistas, documentos escritos e registos fotográficos na recolha de dados. Assim, no final do estudo é possível constatar que os alunos possuem conhecimentos estatísticos anteriores, apresentando dúvidas principalmente ao nível dos arredondamentos, no cálculo da média de dados agrupados e no significado da frequência relativa e da média em diferentes contextos. Contudo, o trabalho com dados de interesse para o aluno e num ambiente que proporciona liberdade no processo de aprendizagem fomentam o entusiasmo do aluno e contribuem para a superação de dificuldades e para a mobilização e consolidação de conhecimentos.

This study was developed within the context of the Supervised Teaching Practice (PES), in an Elementary School in the district of Viana do Castelo, with a group of 5th grade students, focusing on the area of Mathematics, more specifically within the domain of Organization and Data Processing (OTD). The study focused on the development of Statistical Projects as enablers of citizens able to live in a conscious and informed society, accomplished through a Gallery Walk. It was intended to understand the major difficulties experienced by students regarding the different statistical concepts and how they mobilized the acquired knowledge in OTD classes when developing Statistical Projects through a Gallery Walk. So, the following questions were defined to guide the study: (Q.1): What are the main knowledge and difficulties identified in the solution of OTD tasks?; (Q.2): How can we characterize the knowledge acquired during the classes in the development of the Statistical Project during the Gallery Walk ?; (Q.3): What kind of involvement do students reveal in OTD tasks carried out during the classes and in the accomplishment of the Statistical Projects through a Gallery Walk? Taking into account the problem and the questions of the study, a qualitative research methodology was chosen, with an interpretative nature, with emphasis on participant observation, questionnaires, interviews, written documents and photographic records in data collection. Therefore, at the end of the study it is possible to verify that the students have previous statistical knowledge, presenting doubts mainly at the level of rounding, in the calculation of the mean of grouped data and in the meaning of the relative frequency and the mean in different contexts. However, working with significant data, in the perspective of the student, and in an environment that provides freedom in the learning process instigates a certain enthusiasm from the student and contributes to the overcoming of difficulties and mobilizing and consolidating knowledge.
