This report was developed in the scope of Supervised Teaching Practice (PES), included in the Master’s Degree in Preschool and Primary School Education at the Education School of the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo. This report is divided into three parts, namely the characterization of the contexts of PES, the investigative work and the final reflection. The PES took place in a kindergarten with a group of 19 children, aged between 3 and 6 years old, and later, with a group of 20 students aged between 6 and 7 years old. Both institutions are located in the municipality of Viana do Castelo. The research involved 17 children from kindergarten and focused on the importance of outdoor play, regardless of weather conditions. The objectives were defined as follows: I) To identify and describe motor, cognitive, and socio-emotional skills, as well as potential behaviours associated with nature conservation, observed while children play in sunny and rainy conditions; II) To identify potential learning opportunities in the various areas of the Preschool Education Curriculum Guidelines (OCEPE) that can be promoted in outdoor spaces under different weather conditions; III) To describe children’s perspectives on outdoor play in various weather conditions. This is a mixed-method study, which used the development of categories and subcategories, defined according to a literature review, to observe and analyse children’s behaviours. Six observations were conducted (three in sunny weather and three in rainy weather), as well as focus groups to understand the children’s perspectives on playing in sunny and rainy conditions. The results showed statistically significant differences in some subcategories observed in sunny and rainy weather. It was also possible to identify outdoor learning opportunities aligned with the OCEPE. Finally, it was found that all children expressed interest in and preference for outdoor play, regardless of weather conditions. Thus, the study highlights the importance of allowing children to play outdoors in both sunny and rainy weather as an integral part of their holistic development.pt_PT
