This thesis investigated the marketing and communication strategies used by eleven elite educational institutions in the North of Portugal, with the aim of understanding the factors that motivate the consumption of highly distinguished educational services and evaluating whether this type of consumption reflects reproduction processes or social mobility. With an exploratory approach to the topic and using content analysis, the investigation focused on pieces of external communication, such as advertising materials, digital content and other institutional documents, which were qualitatively examined to identify discursive mechanisms for building prestige, social identification and target audience segmentation. The results demonstrated that these institutions mobilize narratives that articulate values of exclusivity, tradition, innovation or social responsibility, promoting not only academic training, but also formative experiences that reinforce the identity and sense of belonging of their consumers. This consumption of education transcends traditional pedagogical objectives, and becomes a form of symbolic and social affirmation, respecting four main consumer profiles identified in the study. Thus, elite institutions operate on a double axis: the economic dimension, associated with social maintenance or advancement, and the symbolic dimension, which feeds the prestige of those involved.
